With International Women's Month in March, it's time to celebrate the women in our lives.
We thought it would be fun to look at six Netflix shows that have strong female characters as a focus. Whether your goal is to binge watch those that make you laugh, cry, or just plain feel, we've picked out all-time favourites with awesome female characters to watch on Netflix right now who kick butt, take names and command our attention.
1. The Queen’s Gambit
The Queen's Gambit is the gripping story of a talented girl who just wants to play chess, and the trials she faces. In our opinion, Anya Taylor-Joy deserves an Academy Award for her performance in The Queen's Gambit, her character is so compelling you'll wish she were a real person. You'll feel like you're right there in the show with Beth Harmon even if you're not a chess fan.
2. Firefly Lane
Friends that can last decades are the kind to have. In Firefly Lane, two women learn the meaning of friendship in difficult times as they inspire each other to grow. Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) met as teenagers in 1974. Though they are very different, they remain the constant in each other’s lives, helping each other navigate through life.
3. The Crown
As a woman, you are probably attracted by prominent and influential female figures. This TV series is centered around the British monarch that follows Queen Elizabeth II's reign of the United Kingdom, complete with all the ups and down to get you hooked.

4. Orange Is The New Black
Netflix's Orange Is the New Black is the most-watched as well as the longest-running original series on Netflix. Based on Piper Kerman's memoir, this series from Netflix follows the lives of women in prison and is brilliantly diverse where racial tension runs high, and how inmates plot revenge against each other.
5. The Bold Type
Want a modern day high heel warrior? This is a series inspired by the life and career of former editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine Joanna Coles, who is also the executive producer of this show. The series centers on three millennial women—Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) living in New York City, and they all work for a fictional international women’s magazine, Scarlet. Watch how they navigate their lives through the big city, including their career and romantic relationships.
6. I Care A Lot
A court-appointed legal guardian defrauds her older clients and traps them under her care but through legal means. Did we say women who kick butt at the start? This film is an exhilarating pitch black comedy with a wicked performance. Watch how Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike), poised with sharklike confidence, kicked the butt of a dangerous gangster.
